While you are sure to make many changes to your configuration over time,
we will start with just a few key adjustments to get you up and running.
Type APS-CONFIG at the command
prompt or press the
toolbar button. This
will bring up the following dialog:

The configuration file that you are editing may be in a different location than
what is shown above depending on how you installed the
APS software.
Press the
button. We are interested in is the "APS Dialog Help System" area.
Select the path to your browser executable:

In order for some of the help system to work properly it needs your browser's executable
file name and path specified (the executable file has the extension
.EXE). Select the "Browse..." button and
locate the browser's executable file. For Internet Explorer® the filename is
IEXPLORE.EXE and it is usually located in
the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\
folder. For Netscape Navigator® the filename is
NETSCP.EXE and is usually located in the
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder.
Next select the type of internet connection that you have.

Select the choice that best describes how you access the internet. If unsure
choose "dial up" as shown above. When you have made your selection press
and the "General"
dialog will close and the Main
Configuration Dialog will reappear.
Press the "Text - Leaders" button and the following dialog will appear:

We need to specify the font files, width factors, and heights for "Note and
Leader Text", "Small Title Text", and "Large Title Text" fonts.

Press the "Browse..." button to browse for the font file to use for the "Note
and Leader", "Small Title", and "Large Title" text styles. You may select a
standard AutoCAD text font file .SHX, a true type
font .TTF (how
to specify a TrueType font), or a .PFB/.PFA font file to use
for this text.

Enter the width factor that you would like for each of the text styles.

Enter the height that you would like each of the styles to be. This height value
should be what you would use in a full scale drawing (scale factor = 1.0). The
actual size of the text that the
APS commands create is
scaled with the scale of the drawing so it will always be the correct size.
Once these have been chosen press "OK" and the "Text - Leaders"
dialog will close and the Main
Configuration Dialog will reappear. Press the "Save and Exit" button and the
settings will be saved to your configuration file.
If you plan to have your layers show on the screen menu (recommended) we
need to make sure that the screen menu is visible.
For many the AutoCAD® screen menu has not been visible since release 13.
Below is how to get it to show for each of the supported AutoCAD releases. Scroll down to your
AutoCAD version or select your version here:
2005, 2004, 2002, 2000i, 2000,
14, 13
On the "Tools" pull down select "Options" or type "Options" at the command
prompt. The "Options" dialog will appear.

Select the "Display" tab and check the box next to "Display screen menu".
Press and
the screen menu will appear.
Type "Preferences" at the command prompt. The "Preferences" dialog will appear:

Select the "Display" tab and check the box next to "Display AutoCAD screen
menu in drawing window". Press
and the
screen menu will appear.
Type "Preferences" at the command prompt. The "Preferences" dialog will
appear:

Select the "System" tab (if it isn't already) and check the box next to
"Screen Menu". Press
and the
screen menu will appear.
Type APS-CONFIG at the command
prompt or press the
toolbar button. This
will bring up the following dialog:

The configuration file that you are editing may be in a different location than
what is shown above depending on how you installed the
APS software.
Note: To show your layers in the screen
menu you must be using layer schemes
for your layer control method.
Press the
button and the
"Layer Control System" dialog will appear.
Select
in the "Layer Schemes" area and the "Layer Scheme Control Settings" dialog will
appear.
We are concerned with the "Number of lines visible on screen menu".

This
setting is for users of AutoCAD releases 2000 and later who display their layers
and layer schemes on the screen menu. This setting indicates how many lines are
actually visible on the screen menu so the layer schemes can be placed at the
bottom. (in rel. 2000+ the screen menu can be stretched below the command line
and therefore the AutoCAD "SCREENBOXES" system variable is not always
accurate) If the screen menu is visible you will see numbers counting the lines
as shown at left. Enter in the box the last line that is visible at the bottom
of the screen menu (46 here).
When done press
on the "Layer
Scheme Control Settings" dialog and then
on the "Layer
Control System" dialog and the Main
Configuration Dialog will reappear.
Press the "Save and Exit" button and the
settings will be saved to your configuration file.
