Each of the commands draws a material key symbol leader starting from the arrow point. The arrowhead and the first segment of the leader are one object when completed. (to eliminate loose arrowheads if the leader is ever erased) The difference between the commands is the type of arrowhead that each uses. The types of arrowheads are shown below:
![]() |
MATLDR - Std Arrowhead MATLDRA - Architectural Arrowhead MATLDRB - Butterfly Arrowhead MATLDRD - Dot Arrowhead MATLDRS - Simple Arrowhead MATLDRT - Tick Arrowhead |
Each of the arrowheads is scaled using the drawing's scale factor so that they will appear the same size on the plotted sheet no matter what the drawing's scale.

Select the endpoint for the leader where material key symbol will be inserted or press <Enter> or <Space> to select another material key symbol to align to.
[Pressed <Enter> or <Space>]
Select any point on material key to align to:
Select any point on a material key symbol you would like this symbol to align with. The "insert" object snap is used when selecting the material key.
[end - Pressed <Enter> or <Space>]
--the second leader segment and material key symbol are drawn--
Shortcut Tip:
If you need to point to a second location from the same material key symbol you can do the following:
If you just completed the material key symbol press <Enter> or <Space> to start another material key leader. If the last command was something other than one of the material key leader commands start the material key leader command again (see above).
Specify arrow point:
Select the point you would like the leader to start.
Specify second point or [D]ist/[L]ength/direction dialog:
Select the "elbow" of the material key leader (or wherever you would like this leader to join with the existing material key leader). We used the endpoint object snap to select the point here.
--the arrow and first segment of the leader are drawn--
Specify leader endpoint or <Enter>/<Space> to pick a material key to align to:
At this point just press <Escape> or <Ctrl-C> (depending on your version and preferences) to cancel the command. (Pressing the <Space> key twice will also exit the command just not as cleanly.) This will leave you with the leader you just drew and it is even on the right layer so you won't have to change it. Now you can press <Enter> or <Space> to draw your next material key leader or a third leader on the last one.
