Overview of how offset windows work:
First you select the offset distance using the dialog shown below. Then you specify a base point (using one of several methods described below) and then draw a crossing line over the lines/plines/mlines that make up the wall on the side of the base point that you want the window to go.
Command:
![]()
Command: OR
Command: RW
Command: O-RWINDThe following dialog appears:
Enter or select the offset distance for the window. This is the distance to the start of the window from the base point (that you will select later). You may also enter a value of zero which will start the window at the base point.
If you have configured the commercial windows to use a minimum framing distance the offset distance must be greater than this distance. You may override the minimum distance requirement by pressing the "Override Min Rqmt" button. (shown grayed out above because the minimum framing distance has been set to zero in this example) For more on the minimum framing requirements see Window Commands in the Floor Plan Cmds section of the APS Configuration Utility.
Once the distance has been entered press
.
Select base point for offset or <Enter>/<Space> for MID2PT:
Select the base point or press <Enter> or <Space> to find the point using the MID2PT option. The endpoint and intersection snaps are added to your running object snaps if not already being used.
Note: The base point does not have to be on the wall the window will go in. You may select any point you like and that point will be projected perpendicular to the wall selected for the window finding the "effective" base point. The window will then be offset from this "effective" base point.
Select a point outside the wall lines in the direction to insert the residential window:
Select a point on either side (but not inside) of the wall lines in the direction (relative to the base point) that you would like the window to be inserted.
Select the second point crossing all of the lines that make up the wall:
This is the second point of a "crossing line" that should cross all of the lines/plines/mlines that make up the wall.
The following dialog appears:
The maximum window size is displayed at the top of the dialog (the max width shown above is 6'-9"). This distance reflects any minimum framing widths that have been set up. (See Window Commands in the Floor Plan Cmds section of the APS Configuration Utility) If the window size that you need to enter is larger than the "Maximum window size" shown at the top it is possible to override the minimum framing requirements and insert a window size that is equal to the full length of the wall.
Enter the desired size for the window.
Note: the buttons show feet and inch values ie: 4 / 0 means 4'-0" not 40".
Next select the window type from the buttons at the bottom.
