STAIR SECTION

This command draws three styles of stair section: wood, concrete, and metal pan. It allows you to specify the top start point and a point on a line at the bottom of the stairs and then helps you specify rise and run for your stairs prior to drawing them.

User configurable options: 

  • Wood stairs
    • Stringer depth
    • Whether to show topmost kick board
    • Tread thickness
    • Nosing overhang
    • Kick board thickness
    • Hatch pattern, scale, color, & lineweight for wood hatching.
    • Scale factor above which to omit hatch.
    • Whether to adjust the scale factor of the hatch with the scale factor of the drawing.
  • Concrete stairs
    • Concrete thickness
    • Nosing radius
    • Nosing overhang
    • Hatch pattern, scale, color, & lineweight for concrete hatching.
    • Scale factor above which to omit hatch.
    • Whether to adjust the scale factor of the hatch with the scale factor of the drawing.
  • Metal pan stairs
    • Offset distance from stair nosing to top of stringer
    • Offset distance from bottom of stairs to bottom of stringer
    • Color and lineweight for stringer channel beyond
    • Color and lineweight for support angles beyond
    • Hatch pattern, scale, color, & lineweight for concrete hatching.
    • Scale factor above which to omit hatch.
    • Whether to adjust the scale factor of the hatch with the scale factor of the drawing.

SAMPLE STAIRSECT COMMAND SYNTAX:

Command: STAIRSECT

Select TOP stair starting point:

Select the top point where your stairs should start. The endpoint object snap will be added to your running object snaps if not already being used.

 

Select a point on lower finished floor near where lowest riser should go:

Select a point on the line. Do not concern yourself with getting exactly where the stairs will go. Just select a point on the floor on the side that the stairs should run. The nearest object snap will be added to your running object snaps if not already being used.

The following dialog will appear:

The total floor to floor height is shown in the top of the "Rise" area as is the current setting for number of risers and the riser height. If you would like to change the number of risers select one the buttons below where it says "Select number of risers". The values in the "Rise" box will update with the new riser values.

In the "Run" box to the right the recommended tread width is displayed with a box for you to enter what you would like them to be. The "Recommended tread width" is calculated using the formula: Rise x Run should be between 72 and 75. Of course this recommended tread width is just a suggestion and you should make your stair riser height and tread width such that they meet all applicable requirements for your building.

Once you have decided on your number of risers and tread width select the style of stair that you would like to create.

If you would like to change some of the values for the stairs press the "Stair options" and you will be taken to that portion of the APS configuration utility.
