This portion of the TXTEDT command edits attribute definitions. Attribute definitions are created by AutoCAD's "ATTDEF" command and are the "raw" attributes before they are included in the block that they will reside in. For more on attribute definitions see AutoCAD's help for "attribute definitions" or the "ATTDEF" command.

Command: TE
Command: TXTEDTSelect attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):
Select attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):
Select one or more attribute definitions and press <Enter> or <Space> and the following dialog appears:
Edit the "Tag" value in the box provided at the top. The tag value could be considered the "name" of this attribute.
Next you may edit the "Prompt". This is what will be displayed when asking for the text value for this attribute. This should be as short and simple as possible while still being descriptive enough so that people will know what value to enter for this attribute.
You may edit the default value in the next box down. This value is what will be shown as the default (the "suggested" value) and will be used if the user presses <Enter> instead of entering a value.
To edit the height value for the text click in the "Height" box and enter a new value.
To edit the width factor for the text click in the "Width factor" box and enter a new value.
To select a new text style select the small down arrow to the right of the "Style" box and select one of the styles from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed. Only the currently loaded text styles will appear in the list. See AutoCAD's help under the STYLE command for help with loading text styles.
To select a new justification select the small down arrow to the right of the "Justification" box and select one of the justifications from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed.
To edit the oblique angle for the text click in the "Oblique angle" box and enter a new value.
To select the color click on the color rectangle and the color selection dialog will appear. See here for more on selecting colors.
To select the lineweight select the small down arrow to the right of the lineweight box and select one of the lineweights from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed (lineweight property only available in release 2000 and later).
If more than one attribute definition is selected any information not the same in all of the definitions will display as *Varies*. If you change this value all of the attribute definitions will have this property changed to the new value. If you leave *Varies* that particular value will remain unchanged in each of the attribute definitions.
Example: If you had selected three attribute definitions and two of them had the "Style" of "Aps-notes" and the third definition had "Standard". The "Style" value in the dialog above would read *Varies*. If you left the value as *Varies* each of the attribute definition's "Style" values would be left unchanged. If you changed the *Varies* value to "Simplex" each of the attribute definitions selected would have their "Style" changed to "Simplex".
When done modifying the properties press
and the dialog will close.
