Select attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):

Select one or more room symbol blocks and press <Enter> or <Space> and the following dialog appears:

This is where the information for the room is stored.

The "Name / Number" information is what is displayed in the room name/number symbol in the drawing. The rest of the values are designed to be used for finish schedule information.

The "Floor", "Ceiling", and "Walls" areas may have different titles than are shown above as they can be changed in the  Room Symbols portion of the Arch Symbols section of the APS-CONFIG command

If more than one room symbol block is selected any information not the same in all of the symbols will display as "*Varies*". If you change this value all of the room symbol blocks will have this property changed to the new value. If you leave the "*Varies*" that particular value will remain unchanged in each of the room symbols.

Example: If you had selected three room symbol blocks and two of them had the "Ceiling finish" listed as "STN" and the third symbol had it listed as "P1" the "Ceiling finish" value would read "*Varies*". If you left the value as "*Varies*" each of the symbol's "Ceiling finish" values would be left unchanged. If you changed the "*Varies*" value to "P2" each of the room symbols selected would have the "Ceiling finish" value set to "P2".

Enter the values that you would like for the room symbol(s) in the boxes provided. When done press and the dialog will close.

--the room symbol block(s) selected are updated with the values displayed in the dialog--

Special features:

  • When this dialog first appears if the "Top name" value is blank the "Bottom name" is automatically highlighted for quick editing. This prevents you from having to press the <Tab> key to get to the "Bottom name" unnecessarily.
  • If the "Room Number" value is left blank this command will swap out the block symbol for one without the "box" around the room number. This allows you to use the room name block without the number box where the numbers are not necessary (like for a presentation) but also allows the numbers to be added later when they are needed (like for construction documents) without having to redo the symbols.
  • To further speed editing if the cursor is in either the "Top name", "Bottom name", or "Room Number" boxes pressing <Enter> will save the values and close the dialog. (The <Tab> key moves you from one box to another without closing)

Helpful tips:

Multiple values for an individual item

If you would like to specify more than one abbreviation value for a particular item separate each value with a comma (,) or an ampersand symbol ( & ). You may use both a comma and an ampersand together as long as there is not a comma after the ampersand. Items separated in this way will each be listed in the legend.
