Command: TXTEDT

Select attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):

Select attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):

Select one or more lines of standard (single line) text and press <Enter> or <Space> and the following dialog appears:

The text value for the text selected will be highlighted so that you may quickly edit the text as needed. If all you need to do is just edit the text value press <Enter> and the dialog will close.

You might notice that the text value has a box under it labeled "Underline" ( ) this handy little feature allows you to forget about the %%u that used to have to go in front of your text. If you want the text to be underlined simply check the box. This will underline the entire text shown in the "Text" box. If you want only a portion of the text underlined you will have to type %%u before and after the portion of the text you want underlined in the box above.

To edit the height value for the text click in the "Height" box and enter a new value.

To edit the width factor for the text click in the "Width factor" box and enter a new value.

To select a new text style select the small down arrow to the right of the "Style" box and select one of the styles from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed. Only the currently loaded text styles will appear in the list. See AutoCAD's help under the STYLE command for help with loading text styles.

To select a new justification select the small down arrow to the right of the "Justification" box and select one of the justifications from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed.

To edit the oblique angle for the text click in the "Oblique angle" box and enter a new value.

To select the color click on the color rectangle and the color selection dialog will appear. See here for more on selecting colors.

To select the lineweight select the small down arrow to the right of the lineweight box and select one of the lineweights from the list that appears. Scroll up or down as needed (lineweight property only available in release 2000 and later).

If more than one line of text is selected any information not the same in all of the text lines will display as *Varies*. If you change this value all of the text lines will have this property changed to the new value. If you leave *Varies* that particular value will remain unchanged in each of the text lines.

Example: If you had selected three lines of text and two of them had the "Style" of "Aps-notes" and the third line had "Standard".  The "Style" value in the dialog above would read *Varies*. If you left the value as *Varies* each of the text line's "Style" values would be left unchanged. If you changed the *Varies* value to "Simplex" each of the lines of text selected would have their "Style" changed to "Simplex".

When done modifying the properties of the text press , or if the "Text:" box is current (has the cursor in it) pressing the <Enter> key will also save the changes and close the dialog.

--the text selected is changed to the values displayed in the dialog--
