Select attributes, text, mtext, dimensions, hatching, attdefs, APS architectural symbols, doors (in plan), or windows (in plan):

Select one or more window symbol blocks and press <Enter> or <Space> and the following dialog appears:

This is where the information for the window is stored.

The "Number:" value is the only value of all of these values in this dialog that is displayed in the drawing. The rest of the values are designed to be used for window schedule information. The window number, width, and height values can be entered in the boxes provided at the top of the dialog.  The titles of the 16 boxes below these may vary as they can be changed in the  Window Symbols portion of the Arch Symbols section of the APS-CONFIG command. Below them is the "Notes:" box. Enter values in these boxes as needed.

If more than one window symbol block is selected any information not the same in all of the symbols will display as *Varies*. If you change this value all of the window symbol blocks will have this property changed to the new value. If you leave the *Varies* that particular value will remain unchanged in each of the window symbols.

Pressing the button next to a box above brings up a dialog with the currently defined abbreviations for the window symbols as defined using the SAM command. Select the abbreviation that you would like from the list and it will be inserted into the box next to the button.

Example: If you had selected three window symbol blocks and two of them had the "Material" listed as "VIN" and the third symbol had it listed as "WD" the "Material" value would read *Varies*. If you left the value as *Varies* each of the symbol's "Material" values would be left unchanged. If you changed the *Varies* value to "ALUM" each of the window symbols selected would have the "Material" value set to "ALUM".

Enter the values that you would like for the window(s) in the boxes provided. When done press and the dialog will close.

--the window symbol block(s) selected are updated with the values displayed in the dialog--

Helpful tips:

Multiple values for an individual item

If you would like to specify more than one abbreviation value for a particular item separate each value with a comma ( , ) or an ampersand symbol ( & ). You may use both a comma and an ampersand together as long as there is not a comma after the ampersand. Items separated in this way will each be listed in the legend.

Specifying a symbol to be "not used"

Due to the speed and ease of the global numbering command ATTCOUNT many feel that there is never a need to mark a window number as "not used". You can just erase the window symbol and renumber them. The schedule will then be updated with the new numbers the next time the WINDSCHED command is run.

For those who prefer to number their windows manually, when a window is deleted you very often need to mark that window's number as "not used". However if you erase the window symbol the window's number is simply removed from the schedule. One way to handle this situation is to change the window symbol to a non plot layer. This will keep the symbol from displaying on the plan but still allow the number to show in the schedule. Edit the values in this "hidden" window symbol so that the number remains, the width is set to "NOT", the height is set to "USED" and then make all the rest of the values either blank or a dash ( - ). It will look something like this in the schedule (this image is actually from a door schedule, but you get the idea):

This will allow the window number to still show but it will be "not used".
