XREF FREEZE LAYERS

Isolates a layer scheme in an XREF by freezing all the layers NOT in a selected layer scheme. For this command to work you must be using layer schemes to control layers. (See Layers in the APS Configuration Utility or Setting up Layer Schemes for more on layer schemes) This command is designed to show a specific layer scheme in one XREF when more than one XREF is in the drawing and the XREF's are not in viewports (if they are in viewports use the VPFL command).

Example: You have an XREF of a roof framing plan (that also includes information for many other types of plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling etc.) in a sheet that also has several details XREF'ed or inserted in to it. Since you have drawings from more than one layer scheme you must either create a special layer scheme that includes all these layers or you may simply turn on ALL the layers. The problem is that when you turn on ALL the layers, the extra information from the roof framing plan drawing is also shown (including the floor plan, reflected ceiling plan, etc) creating quite a mess. To remedy this situation this command was created to allow you to "tell" an XREF what layers to display so you will only see what you want. See more on this example below.

Tip:  An easy way to always have ALL the layers turned on is to use the included example layer scheme "APS-Plotting.lyr" (this layer scheme uses a wildcard to include all layers in the drawing). This layer scheme file can be found in the "...\APS\Custom" folder.

Command: XRFL

Select XREF to freeze layers in:

Select the XREF that you would like to freeze layers of and press <Enter> or <Space>. The following dialog appears:

The layer schemes from the current layer scheme file will be listed. Select the layer scheme for the XREF to show and the command will freeze all BUT the layers in that scheme for the XREF selected.

If the layer scheme you want is not listed press the button and select the layer scheme file that contains the layer scheme desired. The new layer schemes will be listed and you may select the scheme to use.

--all the layers not in the layer scheme selected are frozen for the XREF selected--

Using XRFL in a drawing

To further clarify what this command does, we will show you the example mentioned above where we want to show the roof framing plan (from a plan with information for many types of plans) in a sheet that also has several details in it.

We start with a drawing that has a plan file XREF'ed in to it and several details either drawn, inserted, or XREF'ed in to it (it doesn't really matter how the details got in the drawing). The plan file has the information for many types of plans in it but we are only interested in the roof framing plan for this example. Since we want to show the details as well as the roof framing plan we will be displaying layers from more than one layer scheme. To do this we will use the supplied sample layer scheme: "APS-Plotting.lyr" for this drawing. This layer scheme displays all layers (except those defined as "non plot" in the Plot Prep Config portion of the General section of the APS Configuration Utility).

Because all the layers in the drawing will be shown we need to freeze the layers from the plan file that are not from the roof framing plan layer scheme. We will use the XRFL command to do this for us.

Command:
Command: XRFL

Select XREF to freeze layers in:

Select the plan XREF and press <Enter> or <Space>. The following dialog appears:

Select "1 Roof Framing" from the list. If the scheme you want does not appear press the button, select the layer scheme file that has "1 Roof Framing" in it, and then select it.

--all of the layers in the plan XREF that are NOT in the "1 Roof Framing" layer scheme are frozen--
