A note on customizing blocks

It is highly recommended that when you want to customize a block that you make a copy of the original block and put the copy in the "Custom" folder. Edit the copy in the "Custom" folder leaving the original file intact. We also recommend that you place any new blocks you create in the "Custom" folder as well.

Put all new and customized blocks here so they will go with you when you upgrade.

When any of the APS commands look for a block they look in the custom folder first and then in either the Planblks or Elevblks folders. By doing this you keep a copy of the original file (just in case something should go wrong or you want to go back to the original) and you keep all of your customizations centrally located which makes it easier to take your customizations with you should you move to a new computer. Also, future version upgrades to the APS software will copy any customizations in the "Custom" folder and use them with the new software saving you the hassle of setting it up again.

How these blocks are used

The blocks that are used for this command are scaled when inserted. There is only one block per style of door (single & double bifold).

The blocks are drawn so that they fit in an opening 1" wide. When the C-BIFOLD command inserts them they are then scaled by the width of the opening so they will fit in the opening. In the default blocks, the thickness of the doors is set so that if the door is scaled to fit in a 36" opening (single door) or 6'-0" opening (double door) the door will be approx. 3/4" thick.

Changing the way bifold doors appear

The blocks to edit are "aps-bfd1.dwg" (single door) and "aps-bfdr.dwg" (double door).

These blocks are located in the "Planblks" folder but we recommend that you make a copy in the "Custom" folder and edit the copy.

There is no way we can anticipate all of the ways that these blocks will need to be changed so we will show some considerations when modifying these blocks below.

Insertion point & rotation angle

The insertion point for the doors (yellow dot shown at left) is centered halfway between the "hinge" points of the doors at the corners of the door opening (shown as green dots at left).

The rotation should be with 0 degrees to the right as shown (assuming that 0 degrees is set to go to the right).

Height attribute

When you open these blocks (the double block is shown at left) you will see the door as shown with the height attribute. Do NOT erase the door's height attribute. This attribute is what stores the door's height value for the door schedule and is used by the DWELEV command to create the door's elevation.

Saving the block

These blocks may be saved normally (using AutoCAD's SAVE command or any of the TPSCLOSE, PSCLOSE, or SCLOSE commands)
