Installation Instructions
Choosing an installation type:
Perform a local installation
(on the hard drive of the computer you are using) if...
- you have a single computer
- no network
- a network but prefer to load software on each computer separately
Perform a network installation (on a
shared network location - on a server, etc.) if...
- your computers are networked and you would like to share the software with
users from a single location (allowing most customizations to be done once for
all users)
Note: You may use both types of
installations as needed - a network installation on the computers in the office
"wired" to the server and you may also do a local installation on a laptop
and/or other computers not hooked up to the network all the time.
When using a network installation all of the program files that make up the
APS-2008 software are placed in a
shared location except your configuration file, your menu files, and
shortcut key definition file since these are commonly different from user to
user.

Shortcut definition file (SHRTCUTS.lsp)
and any file that may or should be different than anyone else's |

Note to those upgrading AutoCAD:
Once the APS software is installed if you install a new version of AutoCAD the
APS software will need to be reinstalled over the existing APS installation.
(All your customizations will remain, only the path and windows registry values
will be changed.)
Local and Network installation
1. Close AutoCAD
If you have AutoCAD open, close it.
2. Insert the
APS-2008 CD
Insert the
APS-2008 installation CD. The following
should appear:

followed by:

Press "Next >"
If the above dialogs do not appear then do the following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the
APS-2008 CD and select the
"APS-2008.exe" file, then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
3. End User License Agreement
The following end user license
agreement dialog is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to read it all. In order
to install this software you must agree with the statements contained in it. If
you agree, check "I Agree" and then click "Next >". If you do not agree press "Cancel" and the installation will exit.
4. Installation Type

Check the installation type that you want. If selecting a
network installation the "Location for Configuration File" should "remember"
where yours was installed and show it here. If it does not show the correct
location or if you want to change the location of your configuration file press
"Browse..." and specify the location.
5. Installation Location
The installation should find your existing trial or
temporary version of the software and will convert it to the purchased version.

The purchased version on the install disc is version 1.0
and is an older version than most of the trial and temporary versions that have
been downloaded. This may seem a little strange but proceed anyway, you will
upgrade to version 1.031 once the conversion to the purchased version is
complete.
If you would like to install the purchased version to a
location other than where your existing version resides, press the “Browse…”
button and specify the new location.
Press "Next >".
6. Multiple AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD LT versions

If you have AutoCAD 14 and/or an LT version of AutoCAD you will see the above screen.
Check the installations of AutoCAD that you would like to be configured to
use this version of APS.
If you have additional versions of AutoCAD loaded on your computer that you
would like to set up to use with this software you may set them up manually
after this installation is complete. See
Setting up additional version(s) of AutoCAD to use the APS software.
7. Start Installation

If everything you have entered so far is what you want it to be press "Next
>" to begin the installation of the files.
8. Install files

The files are installed.
9. Finish software installation

Once the files have been installed you will see the above dialog to let you
know that the installation was successful.
Press "Finish >"
and remove the APS installation CD.
The software installation is complete. You may now open AutoCAD and begin using
the APS-2008 software.
Local installation
1. Close AutoCAD
If you have AutoCAD open, close it.
2. Insert the
APS-2008 CD
Insert the
APS-2008 installation CD. The following
should appear:

Press "Next >"
If the above dialogs do not appear then do the following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the
APS-2008 CD and select the
"APS-2008.exe" file, then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
3. End User License Agreement
The following end user license
agreement dialog is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to read it all. In order
to install this software you must agree with the statements contained in it. If
you agree, check "I Agree" and then click "Next >". If you do not agree press "Cancel" and the installation will exit.
4. Installation Type

Check "LOCAL INSTALLATION" and then "Next >".
5. Installation Location

The default location to install the APS software to is "C:\Program
Files\APS-2008". If this
location is OK press "Next >".
If you would like to install the files to another location press "Browse..."
and specify the location.
Specifying an installation location

If you specify a new drive letter as shown above the default sub-folder that
the software will go to remains "Program Files\APS-2008"
and if you go to a sub-folder on the drive the folder "\APS-2008"
is still added to the path selected.

If you would like to make the folder name something other than "Program
Files\APS-2008" or "\APS-2008", highlight the folders that you do not
want (as shown above) and press the "Delete" key.

This will remove the added "default" folders so you may enter the folder name
that you want. The software will install to what is shown in the top box
regardless of what is shown in the folder structure below. Folders will be
created as needed. Press "OK" on this dialog and then "Next >" on the
"Destination Location" dialog when the installation location is what you would
like it to be.
6. Multiple AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD LT versions

If you have AutoCAD 14 and/or an LT version of AutoCAD you will see the above screen.
Check the installations of AutoCAD that you would like to be configured to
use this version of APS.
If you have additional versions of AutoCAD loaded on your computer that you
would like to set up to use with this software you may set them up manually
after this installation is complete. See
Setting up additional version(s) of AutoCAD to use the APS software.
7. Start Installation

If everything you have entered so far is what you want it to be press "Next
>" to begin the installation of the files.
8. Install files

The files are installed.
9. Finish software installation

Once the files have been installed you will see the above dialog to let you
know that the installation was successful.
Press "Finish >"
and remove the APS-2005 installation CD.
10. Insert the APS update CD
Insert the APS update CD that came with the main
APS installation CD or run an update file available from our website.
Updates are available here.
The following should appear:

Press "Next >"
If you used the
update CD and the above dialogs do not appear when the CD is inserted do the
following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the APS update CD and
select the "2005v1031cd.exe" file (filename may vary) then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
11. End User License Agreement
The following is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to
read it all. In order to install this software you must agree with the
statements contained in it. If you agree, check "I Agree" and then "Next >". If
you do not agree press "Cancel" and the installation will exit.
12. Installation Location

The installation should find the version of the software
you just installed and will upgrade it. (Your installation location may be
different than shown)
Press "Next >".
13. Install files

The files are installed.
14. Finish software installation

Once the files have been installed you will see this dialog
to let you know that the installation was successful.
Press “Finish
>”
15. Open AutoCAD
Open AutoCAD. The most noticeable differences will be some new toolbars. See
What you should see
when you first open AutoCAD after loading
APS-2008 for more
information on what to expect.
16. Getting started and where to find help.
We highly
recommend that you now take a look at the User's Manual
especially the "Getting Started" section where
you will find more information about how to use this software to make yourself
more productive. Another resource worthy of a look is the
Tips & Tricks area which can be accessed from the
User's Manual. You may access the
User's Manual
when in a drawing by pressing the
toolbar button or by
typing "USERMANUAL" at the command prompt.
Getting Help
While in a Drawing
There are several ways to get help while using the
APS-2008 software:
- During a command you may press <F1> and the documentation for the
currently active command will be displayed.
- When an
APS-2008 dialog is open press the
button to display
the documentation for the currently active command.
- Help commands (type these at the command prompt):

-
APS-BUG to submit a bug report
- CMDREF to open the command reference
page of the documentation
- CMDTYPE to open the "Commands
Sorted by Type" portion of the documentation
-
APS-SUGGEST to submit a suggestion
or something you wish this software could do
- APS-TROUBLE to
open the "Troubleshooting" portion of the documentation
- APS-TUTORIAL to open the tutorials also known
as the "How To" section of the documentation
- USERMANUAL to open the "User's Manual"
documentation
- Various
types of help can also be found in the "APS" pull-down (see images
above right and below). This pull-down will appear when any of the APS
"Main" menus are loaded.

Network installation
1. Close AutoCAD
If you have AutoCAD open, close it.
2. Insert the
APS-2008 CD
Insert the
APS-2008 installation CD. The following
should appear:

Press "Next >"
If the above dialogs do not appear then do the following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the
APS-2008 CD and select the
"APS-2008.exe" file, then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
3. End User License Agreement
The following end user license
agreement dialog is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to read it all. In order
to install this software you must agree with the statements contained in it. If
you agree, check "I Agree" and then click "Next >". If you do not agree press "Cancel" and the installation will exit.
4. Installation Type

Check "NETWORK INSTALLATION".
All of the program files that make up the
APS-2008 software are placed in a
shared location except your configuration file, your menu files, and
shortcut definition file since these are commonly different from user to user.

By default this
location is on the local hard drive in "C:\Program Files\APS-Local Files" but if this
location is not where you want it to be you may press "Browse..." to specify another location.
Specifying a location for local files

Browse and/or type the path as needed to get the path for the local files
shown in the top text box. The software will install to what is shown in the top box
regardless of what is shown in the folder structure below. Folders will be
created as needed. When the configuration location is what you would like it to
be press "OK" and then "Next >" on the "Type of
Installation" dialog.
5. Installation Location

The default location to install the APS software to is "C:\APS-2008".
Since this is probably NOT the shared location where you would like the
APS-2008 software to go press
"Browse..." to specify the correct location.

Select the drive letter where you would like the
APS-2008 software to go.

If you would like to change the folder location; add or change the path in the
top box and press "OK"

Once the "Destination Folder" is what you would like it to be press "Next >".
6. Multiple AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD LT versions

If you have AutoCAD 14 and/or an LT version of AutoCAD you will see the above screen.
Check the installations of AutoCAD that you would like to be configured to
use this version of APS.
If you have additional versions of AutoCAD loaded on your computer that you

- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the APS update CD and

- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
11. End User License Agreement

15. Open AutoCAD

16. Getting started and where to find help.
We highly
recommend that you now take a look at the User's Manual

19. Install the
APS-2008 software on the next
computer
Perform steps 1 through
4 above on the next computer.
Assuming the location for the installation that you just completed is visible
to this computer it should find it and will display the following dialog:

The version on the shared network location is newer than the version on the
installation disc so you will see the dialog above. While "upgrading" to an
older version seems wrong, continue anyway. The files on the shared network
location will not be overwritten so no harm is done.
This computer will be configured to
use the shared location's installation. Press
and the software will be
installed. All new users of the
APS-2008 software are encouraged
to look at step 18.
20. Install
APS-2008 on the remaining
computers on your network
Now that you've got the "hang of it" installing the
APS-2008 software on the rest of
the computers on your network should go quickly.
Local and Network installations
1. Close AutoCAD
If you have AutoCAD open, close it.
2. Insert the
APS-2008 CD
Insert the
APS-2005 update CD or run the update file you downloaded from our website. The following
should appear:

Press "Next >"
If the above dialogs do not appear when the CD is
inserted then do the following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the
APS-2008 update CD and select the
"2005v1031.exe"
file (filename may vary based on version upgrading to) then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
3. End User License Agreement
The following end user license
agreement dialog is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to read it all. In order
to install this software you must agree with the statements contained in it. If
you agree, press "I Agree" and then "Next >". If you do not agree press "I
Disagree" and the installation will exit.
4. Installation Location

The installation should find your existing version of the
APS software and will upgrade it. If the location shown is not correct, press
browse and specify the correct location.
Once the location is correct press
.
5. Install files

The files are installed.
6. Finish software installation

Once the files have been installed you will see the above dialog to let you
know that the installation was successful.
You may now open AutoCAD and begin using the
APS-2008 software. A list of the
new features for your version can be seen here.
Local installation

5. Installation Location

The installation should find your existing version of the software and will
leave it as is. The new version will create a new folder and install there.
Files from the "Custom" folder of your old installation will be copied to the
new "Custom" folder to preserve your customizations.
If the
location shown is OK press
.
Specifying an installation location
If you would like to install the files to another location press "Browse..."
and specify the location.

If you specify a new drive letter as shown above the default sub-folder that
the software will go to remains "Program Files\APS-2008"
and if you go to a sub-folder on the drive the folder "\APS-2008"

Network installation
1. Close AutoCAD
If you have AutoCAD open, close it.
2. Insert the
APS-2008 CD
Insert the
APS-2008 installation CD. The following
should appear:

If the above dialogs do not appear then do the following:
- Press the "Start" button and select "Run"
- Press "Browse..." and go to the
APS-2008 CD and select the
"APS-2008.exe" file, then press "Open" or "OK".
- Press "OK" on the "Run" dialog.
3. End User License Agreement
The following end user license
agreement dialog is displayed:

Read the license agreement, scroll down at the right to read it all. In order
to install this software you must agree with the statements contained in it. If
you agree, check "I Agree" and then click "Next >". If you do not agree press "Cancel" and the installation will exit.

Check "NETWORK INSTALLATION".
The "Location for Configuration File" should "remember" where yours was
installed and show it here. If it does not show the correct location or if you
want to change the location of your configuration file press "Browse..." and
specify the location.
Specifying a configuration file location

If you specify a new drive letter as shown above the default sub-folder that
the software will go to remains "Program Files\APS-Config"
and if you go to a sub-folder on the drive the folder "\APS-Config"
is still added to the path selected.

If you would like to override this, highlight the folders that you do not
want (as shown above) and press the "Delete" key.

This will remove the added "default" folders so you may enter the folder name
that you want. The software will install to what is shown in the top box
regardless of what is shown in the folder structure below. Folders will be
created as needed. When the configuration location is what you would like it to

5. Installation Location

We recommend that release upgrades (like APS-2002 to
APS-2008) go in a separate folder from your last
release. The default location to install the APS software to is "C:\APS-2008".
Since this is probably NOT the shared location where you would like the
APS-2008 software press
"Browse..." to specify the correct location.

Select the drive letter where you would like the
APS-2008 software to go.

If you would like to change the folder location add to or change the path in the
top box and press "OK"

When the "Destination Folder" is OK press "Next >".
