Tips to Help Make Things Run Smoothly
.
Architectural Production Software 2005
The following are general "rule of thumb" type things that are a good idea when using the APS software. None of these are required but the system seems to work better when these guidelines are used.

1.     Read through the entire "Getting Started" portion of this help web

We can't stress enough how helpful it is to spend the time to familiarize yourself with the information referenced in the Getting Started page. There is a lot of information there and we know it will take you some time, but the increased understanding of the APS software and how it can make you more efficient will pay for itself many times over later as you are using the software.

Most of the questions that we receive from our software users are covered in the information referenced in the Getting Started portion of this website.

2.     If you have a question or problem while using a command use the "APS-Help"

While using APS commands if there is something that you don't understand, have a question about, or problem with, use the provided help. There is a wealth of information available to help you use all the APS commands to their fullest.

If there is a dialog open press the button otherwise press <F1>.

If the information there does not answer your question or solve your problem then try the Troubleshooting Web.

3.     Location of blocks you create and customized versions of APS blocks.

It is highly recommended that when you want to customize a block that you make a copy of the original block and put the copy in the "Custom" folder. Edit the copy in the "Custom" folder leaving the original file intact. We also recommend that you place any new blocks you create in the "Custom" folder as well.

Put all new and customized blocks here so they will go with you when you upgrade.

When any of the APS commands look for a block they look in the custom folder first and then in either the Planblks or Elevblks folders. By doing this you keep a copy of the original file (just in case something should go wrong or you want to go back to the original) and you keep all of your customizations centrally located which makes it easier to take your customizations with you should you move to a new computer. Also, future version upgrades to the APS software will copy any customizations in the "Custom" folder and use them with the new software saving you the hassle of setting it up again.

Is there anything that you find confusing or difficult? Please let us know so we can help!
